National Police Week: Honoring Service, Recognizing the DEA at 50

May 12, 2025

During National Police Week (May 11-17, 2025), we honor the bravery and sacrifice of law enforcement. To help celebrate this important occasion, Government Book Talk highlights the Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) 50th anniversary, commemorated by their recently released DEA Museum 50th Anniversary History Book, available from the U.S. Government Publishing Office (GPO) Bookstore.

This comprehensive and fascinating coffee table book chronicles the DEA’s history from its establishment in 1973 to its present-day challenges and accomplishments. It features updates and new chapters, full-color photos, tributes to fallen personnel, and introductory remarks from the Administrator.

Topics covered in the book include:

  • The creation of the DEA in 1973
  • The DEA’s role in the War on Drugs
  • Major drug trafficking organizations
  • The DEA’s international operations

As we observe National Police Week, let’s remember the fallen and acknowledge the ongoing commitment of agencies like the DEA. Their tireless work deserves our deepest gratitude.

Let’s thank all law enforcement for their unwavering service.
