When I started writing for Government Book Talk six months ago today, I had no idea where it was going, or whether anyone would be interested in what I was interested in. With some relief, I can now say that quite a few people are. As of this morning, this blog has had 72,941 page views. Our guest bloggers and I have put up 53 posts and received 330 comments (truth in advertising: this total includes my replies to questions and comments, so subtract 10 or so), and 850 of you have subscribed. Thanks for your interest in Federal Government publications – and I hope you’ve been enjoying this blog as much as we have!
What I appreciate most are the interesting and insightful comments we receive. As a result of those comments, we’ve instituted some improvements (RSS feeds, references to WorldCat so you can find a book in a local library), made a couple of corrections (Dr. Seuss was not a private, the Bismarck was not a pocket battleship), and generally enjoyed your feedback. A favorite: “Thank you so much for making this available online! It is so interesting and I want to add it to my collection. Without this blog, who knows what treasure I would miss?” We hope to keep on unearthing more of those treasures as we move forward.
In the coming months, we hope to continue talking about Government publications new and old, print and online, free and paid, popular and offbeat. As always, we welcome your suggestions and comments. Thanks for reading!

Hi! I am doing research on the US Army 761st Black panthers Tabk Battalion of WWII, I have read most of the bookstore literature on this battalion, however, I am wondering if there is any released US warfare or other US Government literature, such as their war merits, routes, heros, war records or fighting. My Dad was in this unit, and I am trying to obtain more information to get his unawarded medals, including the Purple Heart, posthumously. I hope you can provide me with resources, since he told me a story that changed the outcome of the war that most people do not know, and we might not have won, if this action did not occur, at the risk of court martial… Please let me know… Thanks!

Your project sounds very interesting and worthwhile. I suggest the Army’s Center of Military History Web site. It has a nice Inquiries page (http://www.history.army.mil/inquire.html) that walks you through the process of seeking information, and they have a lot of links to their resources from that page.

It is nice to be able to see that the government is listening about change and incorporating truth instead of fiction! We have many stories, that get lost in the shuffle, pay close attention to what happens when there is dissention in the ranks! I have learned what I did not believe existed, and how it touched my life, was beyond the scapegoat mentality that no one wants to talk about, and how we become a victim through the laggering functional systems set-up to create a fall, and the breaucratic mess that was done to hold us back. Activities that are ssuppose to support us. When one records history, one now wonders how the “best” are the only free people in the universe, besides the corruption that has encircled us.

There was some discussion of bringing up-to-date the history of the GPO. Has that been completed yet and is it available?

We are currently working on the updated history, which will be published in March 2011 as part of GPO’s 150th anniversary celebrations.

My daughter is a US Navy and now my son would like to enlist. But I need to know if he would have a chance getting into the Naval academy? Are there any books for how to do that. Help us, some one.
